Copying a League (Lexer BW2)

Created by Guillaume Nadeau, Modified on Fri, 26 Jun at 12:12 PM by Guillaume Nadeau

Copying leagues is an essential task to ensure the smooth launch of the new bowling season. The steps below will help you complete this task. These are the basic steps, I should remind you. Since every league is different, some league-specific settings might be revised during the first few weeks of play. You can contact us by email (support@buffabowling.com) if there are any elements you don’t understand and need help with.

All the steps have been written as clearly as possible. That’s why no screenshots were included in this article. Please pay attention to each step to correctly identify the buttons to click.

At the bottom of this article, you can watch a video showing some of the steps to follow in Lexer.

----------

STEPS IN LEXER BW2

1)  Choose the league to duplicate from the list.  Remember that leagues are light green, while a selected league appears dark grey.

2)  To the right, select Copy...  A screen opens.

3)  If needed, change the name of the league. Ideally, the league's name should always include a reference to time such as the year (e.g., YBC 2025-2026).  If so, Lexer automatically updates it when copying the league (e.g., YBC 2026-2027).

4)  Change the date of the first week.

5)  Do not change the scoring name here.  The scoring name will be updated later.

6)  Change average: Choose one of these three options.

  • Reset value: The bowlers do not have an entering average to start the season.
  • Initialize start value: The entering average is the one at the end of the previous season.  It includes all the games bowled, even those during the playoffs.
  • Use handicap average: The entering average is the one at the end of the regular season.  The games bowled during the playoffs are not included as long as the "Bowler's Average Calculation" under the Handicap tab of the Playoffs event of the previous league is set to Frozen Average.

7)  There is a list of options:

  • Delete all scores - Recommended for resetting the league stats.
  • ⏹️ Delete all bowlers - Not recommend as most of the bowlers sign up for the following year.
  • ⏹️ Delete all registrations - To be ignored.
  • ⏹️ Delete all teams - Not recommended as the number of teams remain the same the following year.  If the number of teams changes, it can be edited after the league is copied.
  • ✅ ou ⏹️ Disconnect bowlers from team - If the lineups remain the same or mostly the same the following year, do not check this option.  If the lineups are different from the previous year (because of a draft or something alike), check this option.
  • ✅ Custom configuration disabled - Checked by default.
  • ✅ ou ⏹️ Delete all bowlers without score - Personally, I like to keep all the bowlers from one season to the next, whether they have bowled or not.  it is up to you to decide if you want to remove or keep the bowlers who did not play the previous season.
  • ✅ ou ⏹️ Delete team name - If the teams have the same sponsors or the same captains, it is not recommended to delete the team names.  If the teams have new sponsors or new captains, it is recommended to delete the team names.
  • ✅ Globally enable updating of payer order in teams - Checked by default.
  • ⏹️ Réinitialiser par défaut les données quilleurs/équipes - Not checked by default.

8)  Click OK and wait a couple of seconds to get Lexer display the new league.

9)  Click the little brown diskette at the top right to save the league file.

  • On the left, select OneDrive or Box.
  • On the right, double-click the folder Lexer - Leagues and tournaments.
  • Check if there is a folder for the new season you are preparing.
    • If so, double-click this folder.
    • If not, add a new folder and name it according to the new season you are preparing (e.g., 2026-2027) and hit Enter on your keyboard.  Double-click this new folder.  Note that this folder will be the default folder for the next leagues you copy.
  • Click the Save button.

10)  Go to Edit league > Competition scoring.  Edit the scoring name at the top right.  Remember that the scoring name is a short name of the league ending with the last two digits of the starting year.  As an example, the scoring name of the YBC 2026-2027 league can be something like YBC26.  There is a limited number of characters.

11)  Click OK to confirm and exit out from the Edit league screen.  Click the little brown diskette at the top right to save the modification.

12)  Go to Teams.  If needed, change the team names and the lineups.

  • Team name: Double-click the team name, write the new name under Nickname and click OK.
  • Lineup :
    • Remove a bowler from a team: Select the bowler, click Disconnect player and click OK to confirm.
    • Add an existing bowler to a team: Click Connect play, choose the bowler on the left, send it over to the right  (green arrow or double-click) and click OK to confirm.
    • Add a new bowler to a team: If the bowler has just joined the league, click Add Bowler, enter his first and last name, change the gender, add an entering average (if required) and click OK to confirm.
    • Positions: Choose a bowler and use the two green arrows (up and down) to move the bowler to a different position.
  • Click the little brown diskette at the top right to save the modifications.

13)  Go to Games.  Highlight Week 1 and click Prepare Week so that Week 1 is exported to Conqueror and so that the league is listed in League Control in Conqueror.

14)  Update the league to the Internet so that the league has its own URL.

  • Click Create Web Site Pages.
  • Web Site Pages File: Click the three dots [...] and click Save.  This has to be done once.  You will not have to repeat that during the season.
  • Click OK and wait a few seconds.
  • Answer YES to the following question: Do you want to send results?
  • On the next screen, wait a couple of seconds to see two green lines at the bottom of the screen.
  • Click the little brown diskette at the top right to save the modifications.

15)  Exit out from the league by clicking the little red X above the little brown diskette at the top right.

16)  By default, you go back to the list of competitions in Lexer (leagues and tournamentrs).  Click the ALL button to refresh the list and see the new freshly-copied league.

17)  Highlight the league from the previous season so it is dark grey.  Right-click this league and disconnect the league to remove it from the list.

----------

STEPS IN CONQUEROR X

1)  Go to Home > Quick Access > League Control.

2)  Highlight the freshly-copied league.  The number [1] should be left of the league name and the ID should match the scoring name entered in Lexer (step 10 above).  Click OK.

3)  Assign the lane options of the previous league to the new league:

  • Go to Setup > Technical > Options.
  • One the left, there is the scoring name of every active competition in Conqueror.  Identify the scoring name of the previous league.  Looking back at the YBC 2026-2027 league, its scoring name is YBC26, so the previous league must be YBC25.  Select this one.
  • Click Set to league at the bottom right.
  • Conqueror asks if you want to apply this set of lane options (YBC25) to the new league (YBC26).  Click YES.

4)  On the left, select the toolbox screen labeled with the league's name and click the X at the top right to close it.

5)  On the left, select the trophy screen labled with the league's name and click the X at the top right to close it.

6)  Go to Home > Quick Access > League Control.

7)  Highlight the league from the previous season and click Delete to remove this league from Conqueror.
